New payslip laws affect employers

More than 300,000 workers will be getting a payslip for the first time under new rules that have come into effect.

The rules change, part of the Government’s Good Work Plan requires employers to include variable rates of pay and hours worked within their payroll reporting, which will enable workers to easily confirm that they are receiving the minimum wage.

The P11D deadline is drawing nearer – what you need to report

If you run a business, you might provide benefits, or non-exempt expenses, to some or all of your employees. If you do, it is important to be aware of the annual P11D form that needs to be completed and sent to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) by the deadline of 6 July 2019.

Before doing so, you will need to know what you need to report and if you need to pay tax and National Insurance (NI) on the benefits or expenses.

Employers get to grips with major changes to employment costs

Many employers have had to amend their payroll in April to reflect important changes to pay and pensions rules that have seen employment costs increase.

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) and the National Living Wage (NLW) have both increased, with the NLW rising from £7.83 to £8.21 – the largest ever increase.

New leave and pay entitlements to support bereaved parents on the horizon

Parents who lose a child under the age of 18 will be entitled to paid bereavement leave under new rules from next year.

Royal assent was given to the Parental Bereavement (Leave and Pay) Act in September last year and the act is set to come into force in 2020.
